My Sar-El Adventure Over the Summer

Hi, my name is Dor Ashur and i volunteered for both of the Sar-El international youth groups this summer. I feel that, without a doubt, Sar-El was an excellent experience.

I was able to meet people from around the world and experience ideas and points of view that i have never been exposed to. I was able to get in shape from the manual labor. I felt strongly that my work had an impact on the Israeli Army, and enjoyed experiencing the life style of an Israeli soldier. I learned to love getting dirty, became comfortable with being uncomfortable.

My experience was especially rewarding, because, as one of the only members of the group who spoke Hebrew fluently, I was able to help out and lead as a translator between my peers and the officers. In addition, because I will be starting university in the fall, i feel that this experience gave me a taste of communal living and 24 hours-a-day of social contact. I encourage all who want to give back to Israel and want to experience a different life style to join the experience and help out the Jewish State.
